Moose & Sadie’s.

It was the perfect October day to sit outside in the sun and eat great food. Since Moose & Sadie’s reopened serving food i think we’ve been there at least twice a week. The food is that good.

Finishing A TV Spot.

In advertising, doing a TV spot is as good as it gets, especially when it’s a good one like what we did for Evercare. This was at Fischer Edit with Jay Holgate (who played bass in Stingray Green when we playing in London) who did all the final finish on the spot. This is the worst part of doing TV; the finish...because after this it’s all over. The client came in to approve the finished spot and they loved it and that was it. We were all done and it was time to go back to the “normal” routine in advertising.

Murray’s Steak House.

Murray’s is the shit. There isn’t a cooler looking building in the state. I can only imagine how many other businesses used to look this cool but didn’t stand the test of time. Maybe Murray’s fit in quite well in the 1940’s? Maybe it was nothing special...that turquoise building front with its bright pink neon and huge painted steak just blending in with all the other places that decked themselves in color and neon very much the same way. Maybe? Now that’s a time i want to live in...when people did it and did it right.

Things I Saw on the Walk to Fischer Edit One Day.

Here’s a homeless dude with all of his stuff standing outside a bookstore.

Some of the flowers we got after Buster died. our house looked (and felt) like a funeral home.

Apple Season.

I’m not a huge fan of apples, but we sure grow a lot of them in Minnesota and it is apple season, so we decided to get out and hit a couple apple orchards, look at fall colors, eat apple flavored things etc. My favorite apple flavored item is the cinnamin sugar cake donut. mmm...mmm...mmm. Apparently it’s some sort of tradition because we went to a couple different apple orchards and they all had them, selling by the dozens. Naturally i felt like i had to do a taste test which meant eating 3 or 4 of the damn things.

Afton, MN.

We were dead set on having hamburgers at Lurks in Afton, but we rolled into town and saw a ‘for sale’ sign on the front and the ‘closed’ sign hanging on the door with a note explaining they were closed until someone else bought the place and reopened it. The good news is Lurks may get a new owner that’s actually nice. The bad news is were were damn hungry...and hungry for hamburgers. Kelly and Patrick even drove to Afton to meet us for Lurks so it was 4 hungry bummed people. Luckily up the street sits the ‘Catish Saloon’. It’s been there forever but i’ve never had a chance to even think about going with Lurks right up the street, but it’s all we had to choose from in the tiny little town of Afton. Well, with a name like ‘Catfish Saloon’ you sort of need to try the catfish. So i wiped the taste of hamburger out of my mouth and went for the catfish. Glad i did. It was damn good. I tried both the catfish fingers (any meat products named “fingers” just cracks me up) as an appetizer and the catfish sandwich as my entree. Both were fantastic. I do like fish, but most places do a crappy job of serving it, but I’d go back to the Catfish just to get the catfish.

“I’ll Take Six!”

Apple flavored cake donuts: my new all time favorite food item.

Halloween Props.

Standing around a bunch of wagons and pumpkins.

Good / Bad Chinese.

Actually it was just bad/bad chinese food. The Canton garden is in Robbinsdale and Patrick & Kelly found the place so we decided to give it a shot. They said it was good, but i don’t think they think that anymore. There are plenty of good old chinese places out there that actually serve decent food if you like that fake-1950s american style chinese...and i do, but this ain’t one of those places. When i saw “Plain chow mien” was item #1 on the menu i knew i should have gone for that...instead i “upgraded” to some chicken subgum thing that was awful...i actually feared for my safety after eating a few pieces of what the menu said was chicken. Oh well, the space was great and there’s a lot to be said for ambience even though you can’t eat it.
